Registering a Business
This is a question many arts, cultural and community groups grapple with. On on hand they want to remain 'just a group of like minded individuals with no formal structure' on the other side is being seen to be a stable, responsible and accountable organisation.
The process is not that complicated, the real challenges are around deciding what kind of organisation you want to be a company, a sole trader, an incorporated association? An incorporated association should be non-profit, this means that any profits made should be used to further the objectives of the association and not to provide personal gain for its members. Please go to www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au for the forms, definitions and explanations, there is even a set of rules you can use to set up and run your organisation. another useful site is www.ato.gov.au where you will get advice on the tax status of your new organisation and check out http://www.communitybuilders.nsw.gov.au/getting_organised/ DONT FORGET IF YOU ARE STUCK...SEND AN EMAIL TO fusion@fusionarts.org.au
